Six generations have lived here, and four generations have skied Sunlight Mountain since its opening more than 40 years ago. John Doose, Jr. Talks Sunlight: How did his grandfather Max get involved with Sunlight? “He was a postma n on Four Mile Roa d. He hea rd from one of his of customers t hey were put ting in a ski a rea, a nd he went up on a snowcat to ski Ute before t he a rea opened.” How about his family’s continued involvement with Sunlight? “In 1969 my da d sta r ted on t he first Ski Patrol. Later he was Patrol Director a nd Mom ra n t he , nurser y.” What was it like being at Sunlight as a kid? “I ha d issues going to school beca use I grew up at t he ski a rea. in school.” It was way more fun ha nging out wit h t he Ski Patrol t ha n being What is his most vivid summer memory of Sunlight? “My Da d ha d a painting compa ny. In t he summer we’d be at t he ski a rea at 6:30 a.m., a nd I got to run t he lif t to move t he chairs up one at a time for painting. ever ywhere.
