ITIL v2 vs. v3: What’s the Difference? Wondering what’s the difference between ITIL v2 and v3? Here’s a list of a few key changes: • ITIL Version 3 has a more consistent structure and better navigation through the library, with more focus on how processes interact to form an “IT Service LifeCycle.” • Discrepancies found in ITIL v2 Service Delivery and Service Support books have been clarified, and many topics have been expanded upon. • v2 only discussed one function, the Service Desk. But, v3 includes additional functions, as well as more tools, models, and guidance useful for implementing ITIL. • Standards and practices, like project management, quality, and governance are included to increase the effectiveness of ITIL v3 practices. • The Service Knowledge Management System (SKMS) was created for v3 to support service managers and ITIL implementations with productivity and efficiency. • The value of implementing ITIL is explored to encourage practitioners to study business strategy and service value as means of addressing communications-barriers with business executives and teams. • Service provider categories that include commercial IT service providers are introduced, as are guides for supplier management. What You’ll Learn in Class • Characteristics of the ITIL model that will help develop, implement, and manage an Integrated Change and Release Management framework using Configuration Management as a critical component • Requirements for clearing the Practitioner's Certificate Release and Control exam • Best practices for requesting, assessing, approving, and deploying changes to IT services • The relationship between the processes that would contribute to an increase in the functionality and quality of IT services Who Needs To Attend IT operations, technical, or IT management personnel requiring more information about ITIL best practices. Anyone responsible for managing, implementing, or consulting on ITIL processes within IT or in conjunction with IT. Prerequisites • ITIL Foundation Certificate (required to take the Practitioner exam) • 2 years of relevant work experience How Do These Changes Affect Your Training? Existing ITIL v2 certifications are still valid and valuable, but lack the depth of the content covered in v3. Earn your ITIL Practitioner Certificate in Release and Control Management.
