Global Knowledge-Business - February-June 2009 - (Page 8) PMBOK® Guide Changes Find out how this Fourth Edition will affect PMI’s credential exams. The PMI PMBOK® Guide Has Changed With the release of PMI’s PMBOK® Guide – Fourth Edition, PMI credential exams will change to reflect new information in this guide. If you want to get certified before the exams change, now is the time to start preparing. Fourth Edition Changes The Fourth Edition reflects the evolving knowledge and practices of the project management profession, while focusing on improved consistency and clarity. The new guide removes redundant information and updates certain terminology. Some key differences between the Third and Fourth Editions are: • Process names now follow a verb-noun format • Enterprise Environmental Factors are defined more clearly to avoid confusion with Organizational Process Assets • The introduction of a standard approach for discussing requested changes, preventive actions, corrective actions, and defect repairs • The number of processes decreases from 44 to 42. Two were deleted, two were added, and the six processes in the procurement Knowledge Area were reconfigured into four • Distinction is made between the project management plan and the project documents used to manage the project • To provide clarity, a greater distinction is made between the information in the Project Charter and the Project Scope Statement • Process flow diagrams at the beginning of chapters 4-12 (in the PMBOK® Guide) have been deleted and replaced with data flow diagrams • A data flow diagram has been created for each process • The addition of an appendix that addresses key interpersonal skills that a project manager uses when managing a project Credential PMP® CAPM® PgMP® PMI-SP® PMI-RMP® New Exam Begins June 30, 2009 July 31, 2009 August 31, 2009 August 31, 2009 August 31, 2009 Related Courses Preparation courses for the PMP exam: PMP Exam Prep Boot Camp p. 9 Guided PMP Exam Prep p. 10 Preparation for the PgMP exam: Program Management Professional (PgMP) Exam Prep Boot Camp p. 24 More information on the PMBOK® Guide – Fourth Edition is available at www.pmi.org. PMI members can download a digital version of the guide at no cost. How Will These Updates Affect The Exams? Credential exams are updated when a new standard is released to reflect changes in the professional reference. A percentage of the examination items and questions require updates that directly address changes in the standards. As always, new questions continue to be produced, tested, and used in place of older questions on a periodic schedule. If you plan to take the exam before the exam change date, you can continue to use the PMBOK® Guide – Third Edition to study and prepare. 8 There’s more to see at www.globalknowledge.com/business 1-800-COURSES http://www.pmi.org http://www.globalknowledge.com/business
