City of Goleta
G O L E TA H A S A L O T to celebrate! It's growing up.
2017 marks the 15th anniversary of the City, the 10th State
of the City and the 5th Dam Dinner.
Incorporated in 2002, the City of Goleta celebrates its 15th
anniversary in 2017. This coastal city of about eight square
miles is nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and
Pacific Ocean, offering unparalleled scenic beauty. More
than 28,000 people live in Goleta, and many more commute
to work here. The City is on the cutting edge of the entrepreneurial business community. For a small city, there are
lots of large, well-known companies who make their home
in Goleta, and new entrepreneurs are popping up each year.

''

The City is governed by a five-member City Council. As
a General Law City, it has a Council-Manager form of
government. This system of local government combines
the political leadership of elected officials in the form of a
Council with the managerial experience of an appointed
local government manager. The Goleta City Council serves
as a legislative body. One of the council members is selected
by the other council members to serve as mayor for a oneyear term. In the November 2016 election, Goleta residents
voted to elect the mayor by popular vote for a two-year term
beginning with the 2018 election.

Goleta is a beautiful and safe
community with familyfriendly neighborhoods that
values the environment,
agriculture, and open space
while encouraging housing,
recreation and business
opportunities."
GOLETA'S STRATEGIC PLAN

The City works hard to keep its residents safe, and it shows.
Goleta has been named one of the top 50 Safest Cities in
California for the last three years by SafeWise, and in 2013
was named a Top 100 Safest City in America by Location Inc.
In 2017, the City will be celebrating its 10th State of the City.
This is the City's annual opportunity to update the business
community on the state of the City and what lies ahead. The
event is hosted by the Goleta Chamber of Commerce and
held at Bacara Resort & Spa.
Another popular event is the Dam Dinner, which will be
held for the fifth time on August 19, 2017. At a Love of Goleta
workshop, participants shared what they love about our City
and brainstormed on how to further create community and
an event idea was formed. Every year people share a meal
(either homemade or purchased from a food truck) at the
Lake Los Carneros Dam, a picturesque spot in Goleta. Since
its inaugural event in 2012, the casual dinner has grown to
over 300 people. This event brings people of all ages out to
get to know one another over dinner and live music.
Come join us in the Good Land-a great place to live, work
and play!
