contributors Carol Arnold (“Cuttings,” page 28) is a retired trial lawyer, a plant lover and a grandmother of three who travels regularly to New York to visit Lauren and her little brother and to Germany to visit their new baby cousin. She lives in Seattle with her husband, Jim Compton. Susan D. Brandenburg (“All That Doesn’t Meet the Eye,” page 34) is a Ponte Vedra Beach freelance writer with regular columns in the Florida Times-Union and the St. Augustine Record. Mother of two and grandmother of four, Susan writes human interest stories for several local magazines, including Skirt!, Arbus, Folio Weekly, Women’s Digest and Jacksonville. Susan has been published in Chicken Soup for the Golfer’s Soul, Florida Sportsman and Woman’s World, and has collaborated with Don and Anne Bloch on their book, Sailing the Seven C’s of Marriage. Michelle Briseno-Tucker (“One Mixed-Up Lemon,” page 26, and “Live Long and Prosper,” page 38) is the founder and formulator of Eden’s Kiss (www.edenskiss. com) all-natural skin care products. Her work as an environmental litigation paralegal sparked her interest to create synthetic-free products. Michelle lives with her husband, Tracy, and her youngest daughter, Corabelle, in Ferndale, California. Lillian Carson (“Stuck on Stuff,” page 30) is a nationally renowned authority on child development, parenting and grandparenting. She is the author of The Essential Grandparent, winner of the 1996 Parent’s Choice Award; and The Essential Grandparent’s Guide to Divorce, chosen Best Self-Help Book 1999. She was McGrandMom for McDonald’s Parent Source magazine, moderator for the United Nations Global Meeting of Generations Project, a member of the Advisory Council of the AARP Grandparent Information Center, and a lecturer. Her television appearances include Today, CBS Evening News, CNN and MSNBC. A psychotherapist in private practice in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, she has worked with adults, children and families for more than 25 years. Dr. Carson lives in Montecito, California, with her husband and enjoys grandparenting six grandchildren. Fashion humorist Mary Duffy (“Suit-Able,” page 62) started the first plus-size model agency in the world; she eventually sold it to Ford Models, retaining the title of Executive Director, Special Sizes. She has written three fashion books and designed three clothing lines bearing her name. Married and living in Manhattan, she is “GrandMary” to Nathaniel and Maxfield. Ann Fisher-Wirth’s (“What Boat,” page 76) third book of poems, Carta Marina, will appear from Wings Press in 2009. She is the author of Blue Window (Archer Books, 2003) and Five Terraces (Wind Publications, 2005) and of two chapbooks— The Trinket Poems (Wind, 2003) and Walking Wu Wei’s Scroll (online, Drunken Boat, 2005). Her awards include a Malahat Review Long Poem Prize, the Rita Dove Poetry Award, a poetry award from the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters, and two poetry fellowships from the Mississippi Arts Commission. Ann is also grandmother to Sylvie, who is now a little over 2. Sylvie says her favorite toys are “my books,” and her other favorite toys are “my other books.” She loves to recite the first four lines of William Blake’s poem “The Tyger.” Ann teaches at the University of Mississippi. Jennifer Karin (“Storytelling,” page 19) is an award-winning columnist and children’s book author whose opinions have appeared in the Sunday Boston Globe and numerous local and online publications. In 2005 she was named National Humor Writer of the Month by the prestigious Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop. In 2006, she won the national “That First Line” contest for the best opening line to a literary work. Jennifer lives with her husband, Chris, and their three boys near Boston.
