GRAND Magazine - November/December 2008 - (Page 35) GRAND NOVEMBER DECEMBER 2008 Chet Provorse and his grandson Wyatt at work—volunteer work—during Phoenix’s “Make a Difference Day” events. Responsibility The Irish poet William Butler Yeats, quoting a line from an old Irish play, wrote, “In dreams begin responsibilities.” As grandparents, our dreams are that our grandchildren will thrive, living in a world of love and laughter, where each person, unique and respected, has hope and opportunity. And in these dreams begin our responsibilities: not only to provide shelter and peace but also to model compassion— to demonstrate the ability to respond. We are in a season of giving in which the lesson of giving is the greatest gift of all. NOVEMBER DECEMBER 2008 GRAND 35
