GRAND Magazine - November/December 2008 - (Page 71) s p ec i a l a dv e rt i s e m e n t s ec t i o n GRAND: Have you experienced a transformation? SUE: I can honestly say that things happened fast. After a few days, I noticed I was no longer having acid reflux. During the drive home, my husband told me my face looked thinner. My slacks felt looser. I’d lost my cravings for the typical soda and bread or pasta we would have stopped for on the drive back, and I did not want them when we got home either. Keith was tickled by my changed tastes and stepped right into helping me cook according to Kat’s program. It has been really fun to spend time together in the kitchen, knowing it is transforming both of us. Even today when we eat out, I feel nothing when I see the old bread and desserts. My tastes in food have changed dramatically. And my body just stops wanting food when it has what it needs. That is a miracle. Now for the big news: To date, my weight has dropped 36 pounds. My doctor was stunned to see my 250+ blood sugar gradually plummet to average readings around 86! He did not think the improvements would “hold” without medication, but in fact they have continued. My cholesterol and triglycerides are both down about 30 points, and my blood pressure is now normal. My oval facial shape has returned, and my skin is also much less irritated since changing my skin products and installing a chlorine filter in my shower. I don’t even need lotion anymore. My sleep has become deep and my energy has increased dramatically, which has gotten me doing some things I never thought I would actually enjoy, like long walks with my husband, and my grandsons’ dreaded multi-level miniature golf course with no two holes on the same level. I recently bought a bicycle and can now ride with my grandsons. I can also now climb to the top of the stands to watch my eldest grandson, Andrew, play basketball. I could never have done those things a year ago without aggravating my tachycardia. Kat told us that these things and more often happen as a “side effect” of regaining our health. I shared her words with my doctor. At my last appointment he looked at me seriously and said, “That’s quite a ‘side-effect.’ You’re going to need a whole new wardrobe. Keep doing what you’re doing.” GRAND: We wanted to include this note from your husband, Keith: “I am so proud of Sue. I recently saw a flash of the 17-year-old girl I married at 21, 46 years ago, in her. The spirit she has recaptured makes it hard to believe she is a grandmother. Her new habits must be rubbing off on me. The slacks I recently bought are now too big in the waist. We are both more active and having more fun. I think our grandson sees that. Our son asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up. He said, ‘A retired person!’” —husband Keith Kirwan GRAND: Where do you see your progress a year from now? SUE: I think this is just the beginning. I am just starting to look into supplements, for example. I’m allergic to fish oil, so I just started a flax oil by Barleans, and an organic whole food multivitamin from New Chapter. The weight keeps dropping and I expect many more dress sizes to come off. I see the future very differently, now, like there is a new, “gift” chapter I never thought we’d be living at this age. I am grateful to Kat and to GRAND, and I hope that my story will inspire others. “I am so proud of Sue. I recently saw a flash of the 17-year-old girl I married at 21, 46 years ago, in her.
