O VER THE PAST FEW MONTHS, I’ve been feeling movement…have you? Like the first time a pregnant woman feels her baby move inside her, it is that dramatic realization that indeed a new life has begun and is making itself felt in a very tangible way. The world has been trying to get pregnant with renewed hopes and dreams of world peace, a good education and healthcare for all and the opportunity to make the planet cleaner and safer. I think we are all starting to feel empowered to make the world a better place. As trite as those words may seem to some, I’m hooked and I feel expectant, full of hope and inspiration. As President Obama said in his inaugural address: “Let it be said by our children’s children that when we were tested, we refused to let the journey end, that we did not turn back, nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God’s grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.” Also included in his address: “For everywhere we look, there is work to be done.” So, let’s get busy. As we grands are so aware, the next generation is here and we need to get to work so they too can have a grand life! Speaking of getting busy, we’ve been busy transitioning from a national print publication to a green and global digital resource for grandparents. Our editorial and design teams have been extra busy bringing forth this issue of GRAND filled with videos, podcasts and other rich media—all to provide you, dear reader, with a grander experience. Please drop me a note at and let me know what you think of this issue, and more important, what you’d like to see and read about in future issues. GRAND is of, by and for grandparents of all ages, stages and lifestyles, and we welcome your participation on this important journey. With my best wishes to you and your families, Christine Crosby, Publisher 4 GRAND FEBRUARY 2009 Richard J.
