Under the Same Sun
An inspiring true story by Sharon Robinson, daughter of
baseball legend and civil rights icon Jackie Robinson

nder the Same Sun takes place in Tanzania, East Africa, where Sharon and
her mother travel to visit family and celebrate Rachel Robinson's 85th birthday.
After sharing stories and getting reacquainted after the years and distance apart,
"Grandmother Bibi" and "Auntie Sharon" are treated to a surprise: a safari in Serengeti
National Forest. On their last day together, the family visits the ruins of an old slave port,
where, in a bittersweet moment, Rachel's seven African-born grandchildren discover
their ancestors went by slave ship to America.
This beautifully narrated and illustrated children's book is a joyful and poignant story
about long-distance grandparenting, the importance of family, and knowing one's heritage.
