Dave Anderson: My mom and dad were great role models. My
dad is a Choctaw Indian from Idabel, Oklahoma. My mom is from
the Lac Courte Oreilles of Ojibwe Indians in northern Wisconsin. My
parents were very active in church. I think having a spiritual relationship is a great model for raising a family.
Pat Burns: And how many grandchildren do you have, and what
are their names?
Kathy Anderson: We have two grandsons, Cooper, who's 10, and
Miles, who's 8.

Pat Burns: Oh what a perfect age.
Dave Anderson: I think being a grandparent is totally different
than being a parent.
Pat Burns: Well, I always think of that Erma Bombeck quote, "If I
knew grandkids would be so much fun, I woulda had 'em first."
Kathy Anderson: That's great.
Pat Burns: How do the two of you make time to enjoy your
family? Would love for you to share some of your secrets on how to
squeeze all of that into life.
Kathy Anderson: Well we have a great getaway place in
Hayward, Wisconsin, and we enjoy family time on the lake, boating
and playing family games and just spending some quality time.
And one thing nice about Hayward, the reception for phones and
computers isn't the best.
Pat Burns: So you feel the truest way to be able to have quality
family time is to unplug? Is that right?
Dave Anderson: We've kind of cultivated a form of getaway,
and taking their first swim or catching their first fish. So they love
if you will. Whenever we can, we all head up north to the cabin,
coming up throughout the year, and we try to get there every
and now that we have grandkids, it's fun seeing them come up
chance we get.

As a grandparent, you realize that
after doing all you could to raise your
children, your role as a grandparent is
