PAGE 4 T HE ME S S E N G E R VOLUM E 12, I S S UE 12 Youth News Hey all . . . Merry Christmas! We have been having a great time in Youth Group this new School year. It is great to see how students have grown, even in the short time I have been around. It has been amazing getting to know the new 6th graders. What a great group! I am very excited for how things have been going on as well as what is to come. In recent events, the youth attended a concert held at First UMC in the City. It was a hiphop concert, which is not my cup of tea, but I was still impressed. There was this dance group (The Kingdom Crew) from right here in Lancaster, who were break dancing in the beginning of the show. They were amazing! The things they could do blew my mind. I think I may have found a new hobby. Then there was this speaker, Chad Eastham, who talked to us about the differences between guys and girls, as well as the relationships between them. This talk was geared for 6th through 12th graders, but I think it spoke to more than just that age group. I mean, I learned some great insight into the opposite sex. Anyways, I plan on reading his book, Guys Are Waffles, Girls Are Spaghetti and I suggest you check it out as well. Finally, the main attraction was Group1Crew. I have heard of these guys before, but have never heard their stuff until that night. They came out and performed their music, but they also shared a bit of their lives, and their walk with Christ. They also mentioned that their music was used by one of the dance groups on America's Got Talent. I never knew that! Guess I had heard their music before. It’s cool that a group used Christian music for performing on live television. It was a great night, and everyone did a great job. Thanks to First UMC for putting this together; it turned out great! Here is a heads up on a few upcoming events: December is here already, so you probably already know about the Parents night out. If not, it is Friday, December 10 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Check out the flyers posted around the Church. It is a night where Youth and Adults can look after your kids while you enjoy a night out. If you are a parent and wish to utilize this event, sign your kids up! We have the date for Youth ASP 2011. We are scheduled for the week of July 24th. Which means we will most likely be leaving on the 23rd and coming back on the 30th. So if you are looking to participate, let me know! Youth, you have to be at least 14 years old, and adult leaders have to be at least 19. My email is youth@grandviewumc.org and my phone number is 610-2037275. Well, that about covers things for now. Council’s Corner There was no council meeting in November because of the District Superintendent’s visit for our annual Charge Conference. Look for an expanded edition of “Council’s Corner” in January where we’ll introduce some changes in lay leadership, committee members, and church wide meetings.
