Youth News

Hey all! The ASP Car Wash is July 9 at Oregon Dairy. Like last year, the youth will be looking for sponsor to donate per car the youth wash. For example, $0.25 per car and the Youth wash 80 cars, the sponsor owes $20. So look for the flyers posted around the Church. They have more information on them. We have dates set for the training sessions. What is a training session? Well, every year, ASP puts together devotionals and exercises to help us prepare for our trip. These sessions are times where the team can get together, go work through the devotions, talk about the trip and make sure we are all on the same page. For our sessions, we will be meeting May 21st, June 11th and June 25th at the Church at 10am. Sunday, May 1, there will be a Mentor/Mentee dinner. Location and time to be announced. Last month, we went rock climbing at Reading Rocks. It was a blast! A good number of us went and
spent several hours climbing rock walls. Now, we are not talking about wimpy little rock walls, but 30 feet walls. We all handled them like pros. Each wall had its own difficulty rating, which was based on the type of holds on the wall as well as the shape of the wall itself. Each wall also had a belaying system. What is belaying you ask? Basically, the climber has a harness and a rope attached to it. That rope goes all the way up the wall and to a pulley system. It runs from that pulley down to a second person on the ground. Their job is to pull the rope as the other person climbs, keeping the slack out. If the climber were to fall, the belayer’s job is to hold the rope (which is attached to the harness) and prevent the from falling. After we were trained on how to belay, we all took turns belaying for each other and all of us accomplished many walls. It was such a good time that we are certainly going to do it again. Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 24, 9 am until 3:15 pm. Do not miss out on this amazing opportunity to mentor the kids of the church and the community while having a great time with each other.
