APRIL 2015 THE MESSENGER Grandview Hosts Community Camp Fair Grandview is hosting a community camp fair on Sunday, April 19 from 1-3pm. In our very own gathering space, meet with local church vacation bible schools, local day camps, and regional/local resident camps in Lancaster County. We will have a special guest from Gretna Glen Camp during worship on April 19 representing our Eastern PA UMC Camps. We know that families want a safe and fun summer for their children and what better way to do so than by sending them to camp?! At camp, children will meet new people, grow in confidence and self-exploration, and be surrounded by opportunities that encourage learning new skills. Attending this fair is a great way to check out what camp option works best for you and your family. Council Minutes The Shalom Partnership received over $1200 for the Communion offering. Pastor Andrea advised Council members to talk about meetings with the wider congregation so as to encourage an open dialogue policy. Time will tell how the upcoming staffing changes will suit Grandview's needs. Many who are trained in areas of UM ministry have joined what is called The Wisdom Team to meet quarterly. A proposal from Staff Parish and the Trustee Team to rent the parsonage was accepted. Jason and Kirstin will rent the parsonage for $16,600 per year. Kirstin reported that the three Lenten Circles about racism led by the YWCA are going very well. She also announced the need for volunteers to decorate the Sunday School room for those in grades 1-5. Lastly, there are still openings to cover Sunday hosting of GrandBrew Café. Cindy McGary reported positive feedback from the Drum Circles and she has decided to continue the circles monthly with the next meeting falling on Sunday, April 19 at 12:30pm. Cindy was also pleased to share the welcoming of guest musicians into the Palm Sunday and Easter services. Staff Parish has decided that notes contributed to the suggestion box will be discussed 3 and answered at the congregational meeting on April 12. Mary Merriman and the work she has done was acknowledged and appreciated during the meeting. Due to insufficient heat in the kitchen, the trustees are working to fix the ventilation problem with Haller. Young's Services cleaning company has been hired to clean the whole church until a sexton is hired to work 25-30 hours per week. The Finance Team reported that we are $7223 behind so far this year, which is likely due to inclement weather. A letter to the congregation has ben sent out to promote automatic deposits that help keep people up to date on their pledges. The next Council meeting has been set for April 8.
