Internal Focus on Organizational Health
As we turn our attention inward, our perspectives encompass the primary reasons for our organizational success – our employees. Their loyalty and profound knowledge and experience with our organization, products and customers create the “Delta Dental Difference.” Our customers are satisfied because our employees are happy to be serving them. We started the year with new leadership and a renewed focus on the health and wellness of our organization. David Haynes was named president and chief executive officer of Delta Dental of Missouri in January and immediately began putting his mark on the culture of our organization. Barbara Bentrup also joined our leadership team this year as our new chief financial officer, a position previously held by David Haynes. A certified public accountant and a licensed attorney, Barb’s perspectives are already providing strong financial guidance and accountability across the organization. A major priority for David has been a broad-based strengthening of communications, creating a 360-degree engagement and accountability plan regarding the business operations of Delta Dental. One component is to provide members of the board, managers and every employee with regular information regarding priorities, initiatives and results. He is putting into practice a new decisionmaking process that engages senior leaders in understanding and managing the issues of our business. David is also leading the charge to develop new expressions of our mission and value statements so our employees can embrace them and integrate them into their thinking processes. We continued to roll out policy changes in 2010 that were requested in our last culture survey. With input from employees, we are making a concerted effort to fine-tune the internal wellness of our
