Minneapolis Official Visitors Guide - Fall/Winter 2007 - (Page 38) SHOPPING Mall of America Fall fashions from H.O.B.O. LOCAL GEMS Whether you’re looking for jewelry that’s classic with a twist or something that may cause onlookers to do a double-take, Minneapolis-Saint Paul is rich with talented local designers who create one-of-a-kind works of wearable art. Find some of these creations—from delicate threaded bead or sequined necklaces, to sterling silver and semiprecious stone pieces at Quince (850 Grand Avenue, Saint Paul, 651-225-9900). (While you’re there you can sniff out another local gem, Zack and Zoë, a line of natural lotions, scrubs, and more.) Local Charm, in the Mall of America, features a collection of original sterling silver and gemstone jewelry by local, as well as national and international, artisans. The classic with a twist can be found at Epitome (3395 Galleria, Edina, 952-9202978), which carries Oie jewelry, made with precious metal, freshwater pearls, and semiprecious stones. And Macy’s stores feature a line of jewelry created by local television anchor Robyne Robinson. The chunky designs made of semiprecious stones such as amber, carnelian and jade appropriately bear the name Rox Minneapolis (700 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, 612-375-2200). MINI ITINERARY MORNING: A plate-sized pancake like no other, smothered with sautéed apples and cinnamon sugar at the Original Pancake House (3501 West 70th Street, Edina, 952-920-4444)—or any number of their delicious menu items—will start your day of shopping off right. Stop in nearby Galleria’s upscale shops or Southdale Center for a selection from discount to department store. NOON: Head to Mall of America for anything and everyone on your shopping list. Rejuvenate with a gourmet lunch or dinner at California Cafe, one of the mall’s original tenants, located on the third level overlooking the Park at MOA. Then indulge in a gourmet chocolate treat from Godiva Chocolatier after making your way around another level. NIGHT: After a full day of shopping, take the light rail downtown to catch the holiday spirit along Nicollet Mall. Grab a cup of hot cocoa at one of the many Caribou Coffee shops and take in a TCF Holidazzle Parade, then head up to Macy’s eighth-floor auditorium display (see Holiday Highlights on page 18 for more details). Then relax with a glass of wine and live jazz music at the Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant, also on Nicollet Mall. Jewelry by Liz Oie 38 Minneapolis&Saint Paul Fall/Winter 2008
