Minneapolis Official Visitors Guide - Fall/Winter 2007 - (Page 52) SPORTS Minnesota Vikings Kevin Garnett of the Minnesota Timberwolves NBA City at the Target Center SPORTS MINNESOTA SWARM When the NHL cancelled the 2005 hockey season, the Xcel Energy Center coincidently welcomed a new sports team called Swarm, Minnesota’s first professional lacrosse team. Thirteen teams from around the United States and Canada currently play for the National Lacrosse League (NLL), which began in 1987. For the past two years the Swarm made it to the first round of the NLL playoffs. In addition, two of our players received high NLL honors after the 2007 season: Swarm defenseman Ryan Cousins was named to the NLL’s First All Pro Team and goaltender Nick Patterson, appearing in a career-high 14 games, was named to the NLL’s Second All Pro Team for the second consecutive season. Swarm games usually fall on weekends, with anywhere from 10,000 to 14,000 fans filling the seats. With more scooping and shooting planned for this January through April, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they wound up in the finals once again. 199 W.
