Other significant alternative energy announcements in Michigan include Swedish-based Chemrec AB and OhioJOB TRAINING FOR A STRONGER MICHIGAN This year, $791,680 in Economic Development Job Training (EDJT) grants have been made available to upgrade the skills of 1,525 workers employed by 11 companies in Berrien, Cass, Ingham, Ionia, Iosco, Kent, Muskegon, Oakland, Ontonagon and Ottawa counties. Through the EDJT program, employees will receive training in advanced manufacturing applications as defined by each company’s products and needs. EDJT grants and training will be provided to companies such as American Products ($162,500 for 200 current workers and 125 new hires) and Whirlpool Corporation ($110,000 for 39 current employees and 35 new hires). Since 1994, more than $348 million in EDJT grants has helped train over 613,000 Michigan workers. based NewPage Corporation’s partnership to possibly build a renewable biomass-based fuels plant, and United Solar Ovonic LLC’s second expansion—a 202,000-square-foot solar cell manufacturing facility set to open in 2008. Statement of Ownership Management and Circulation (Required by 39 U.S. Code 3685) GRANTS FOR GROWTH A $120,000 state grant increase to Oscoda Charter Township, MI will support the expansion of Seissenschmidt Group. The township will use the funding to help finance the rehabilitation of a building at the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base for the new North American headquarters of the German automotive supplier. The grant is being made available by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation with funds provided by the federal Community Development Block Grant program. The project is expected to create 30 jobs over the next two years, double what was projected when the township’s original grant for $120,000 was approved in April. In the city of Kingsford, MI, a $200,000 state grant will help pay for new roads and a water/sewer system. The upgrades are needed for a new engineering and support facility for Oldenburg Group Inc., a Wisconsin-based manufacturer of engineered heavy equipment and architectural lighting. The $2.5 million expansion will create 25 new jobs within the next two years. The city of Kingsford will contribute an additional $441,000 to support the project. 1.
