2007 SALARY SURVEY By Karim Khan What Your Work Is Worth Did you participate in our 2007 Salary Survey? Find out how your salary compares to those of other Business Facilities readers. S everal months ago we invited you by e-mail to take our 2007 Salary Survey. Many of you did—enough to establish some interesting patterns among the results. The first thing we were able to confirm is that it’s extremely difficult to conduct a salary survey across so many different job titles. Not only do our readers’ titles span the gamut of management, but we have companies as small as a few people bootstrapping a biotechnology startup, and as large as the biggest multinationals with histories stretching back to the 19th century. The CEO of the former will draw a considerably different salary than that of the latter. On the other hand, variations across geography were not as pronounced as we had expected. Average salaries among respondents were virtually identical in New England, the MidAtlantic, the Southeast, and the Great Lakes region. Compensation was slightly lower in the Plains and especially the Southwest, and was highest in the Rocky Mountain and Pacific regions of the United States. Five of the salary tables below list the average salaries and bonuses for our mainstay reader titles. To keep results consistent, we limited responses in these tables to executives working for companies of more than 100 employees. We also limited the companies in these five tables to forprofit entities. Following the salary tables are some other interesting data, including a look at how years of relevant work experience affects your income. (It’s interesting to note the drop-off at the top—perhaps reflective of our older readers working reduced hours?)
