GSDBA 2009 Business Resource Directory - (Page FF) ff Dear GSDBA Members, Board, and Staff: Congratulations on 30 years of outstanding service organizing businesses and advocating for fairness in San Diego! Before the formation of the Greater San Diego Business Association, it was easy for businesses and their patrons to overlook the concerns and economic clout of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. It wasn’t until LGBT -owned businesses became organized in 1979 that their influence began to grow and be recognized. Not only did they form an effective voice for equality, but they also raised the profile of hardworking LGBT business owners and their loyal customers. This heightened presence helped advance city protections of LGBT San Diegans and encouraged more businesses to speak forcefully in support of fairness. Today, GSDBA is an inspiration to business organizations across the country. You have illustrated how a successful business community is one that adapts to the changing face of society and seeks justice and inclusion for all its residents. Thank you for working so hard over the last 30 years to increase awareness and understanding in California. San Diego is a more accepting community because of your presence, and we are all grateful for the tremendous role you played in bringing about such change! Warm regards, 30th anniversary edition CHRISTINE KEHOE State Senator, 39th District
