For proper assembly, drill the hole just deep enough for the insert to bottom with it’s top just slightly below the mounting surface. Drilling deeper does not add any strength to your installation. (2) Use the appropriate Woodnut Driver from Pg. 186 and screw the insert into the wood. If you’re only doing a few, they can be successfully seated with the correct size screwdriver. Make sure it fits the insert properly so you don’t slip and damage it’s internal threads. For greater strength a couple drops of woodglue can be applied to the outer threads of the Wood Insert. (3) Install the proper size stud, attach the appropriate StandOff Systems™ parts for your application and tighten. Drill straight and do not ream the hole with the drill bit. The effectiveness of Nut Inserts is dependent on a snug fit. Assemble the parts as shown here. It helps assembly if you light oil the threads on the hex screw but do not get oil on the outside of the aluminum nut insert. (2) Fully insert the nut into the hole in #2. Make sure it is inserted all the way to the serrated groove near the top of the nut as this is what grips your material. (3) Turn the T-Handle clockwise to crush the nut on the backside of your material. NOTE: Make sure you fully crush the Nut Insert with the tool. You can use a 1/4" rachet in the top of the T-Handle if you need additional torque to crush the nut. Unscrew the hex screw and remove the tool. The Nut Insert should be tight and straight in the hole and you’re ready to install your StandOff Systems Parts. Slip the Turnbuckle and Sleeve onto 3/8" EZ-Rod. (2) Fully insert the Rod and the Sleeve into the .375 Rod Drilling Jig. The Jig is flat on the bottom so it won’t roll when you drill it. Drill completely through the Sleeve and the EZ-Rod. (3) Once you have drilled through the Rod and Sleeve, insert the 3/32" roll pin and lightly drive it through the Sleeve and EZ-Rod till it is flush on both sides. If the Turnbuckle slips freely over the Sleeve, the roll pin is flush on both sides and the assembly is ready to install.
