Mariner - Spring 2008 - (Page 15) News and Notes Holland America Line earns more accolades Holland America Line lengthened its extensive list of awards in late 2007 with two new additions: Best Overall Cruise Value from the World Ocean & Cruise Liner Society and a total of nine new Readers’ Choice Awards from Porthole Cruise Magazine. This was the 16th consecutive year that Holland America Line has earned the Best Overall Cruise Value award. The slew of awards from Porthole Cruise Magazine include Best Accommodations, Best Private Island for Half Moon Cay (sixth year in a row), and Most Eco-Friendly Cruise Line. Half Moon Cay celebrates 10th anniversary Holland America Line recently marked the 10th anniversary of the opening of Half Moon Cay, the line’s award-winning private Bahamian island. The cruise line has carefully developed just two percent of the island while enhancing and protecting the island’s natural beauty on the remaining 98 percent, much of which is a migratory bird reserve. As a measure of the success of this effort, the water fowl population has significantly increased due to habitat enhancement and the island has become Holland America Line’s highest-rated Caribbean port of call. Guests can visit Half Moon Cay on many Eastern, Western and Southern Caribbean itineraries. ms Eurodam sails with a new iPod ® art tour Museum-quality works of art are an integral part of the shipboard experience on Holland America Line ships, and when the new ms Eurodam sails on her maiden voyage this summer she will Half Moon Cay have plenty worth talking about. To help make this collection accessible to guests, Holland America Line has commissioned a new self-guided iPod art tour to be hosted by Paul Lasley and Elizabeth Harryman—the talented couple who created iPod art tours for the rest of our fleet. The two award-winning journalists have written extensively on cruising and art, and host daily radio features. ms Prinsendam gets a facelift The ms Prinsendam, one of the most popular ships in our fleet, enters 2008 with a brand-new look and feel after an extensive $20 million makeover. Additions include a new deck, the Explorations Café, powered by The New York Times, new deck and balcony furniture and an expanded shopping promenade. Staterooms have also been enhanced with new carpet, remodeled bathrooms and larger closets. The “new” Prinsendam will sail a variety of 14- to 73-day itineraries to Europe, Africa, South America and other destinations in 2008 and 2009. Vista-class Caribbean cruises Beginning in Fall 2008, you’ll be able to enjoy all the delights of our Vista-class ships on regular 10-day cruises roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale. The ms Noordam will sail 10-day cruises to the Southern Caribbean while the ms Zuiderdam will sail new 10-day Panama Canal Sunfarer® cruises that include a partial transit of the Panama Canal.
