While device makers are improving the accessibility of e-readers, why are they still not completely addressing accessibility issues? E-royalties are a fraction of what authors receive for hardcover books. Yet, is it fair to ask those with print disabilities to “register” and prove their disability, or pay additional to have the text converted to speech on their e-readers? Whatever issues are addressed in this session, they will inform the topic and move the conversation forward. Learn about the process from the viewpoint of the director and from that of the consultant. You will have a chance to participate in a mock proposal review. Presenters Beth Bingham and Nancy Bolt are currently consulting after distinguished careers in library leadership positions; Sara Laughlin was a consultant for ten years before becoming a library director in 2007. Track: Administration and Leadership Subtrack: Leadership & Management Census 2010: What It Can Tell Our Funders This workshop will demonstrate how to extrapolate and present Census 2010 data that truly represents your community. This data will help you secure funding, offer programming, and meet the education needs of your library’s patrons. Speakers will include a representative from the Census Office and librarians who specialize in demograhics. The David Cohen EMIERT Award and the EMIERT Distinguished Librarian Award will be presented at the end of the program. Track: Administration and Leadership Subtrack: Advocacy, Marketing & Fundraising Moderators: Tess Tobin, New York City College of Technology, CUNY, Admin Services Librarian; Vice-Chair, EMIERT LEARNRT ALCTS Open Source Electronic Resource Management Systems: CORAL and ERMes To tame the complex and ever-changing electronic resource management landscape, electronic resource management systems need to be flexible, evolving and affordable. Two such systems are ERMes and CORAL, developed by libraries for libraries and made freely available. ERMes runs in Microsoft Access and is suitable for small and medium libraries. Released in summer 2010, CORAL, is a modular, web-based system. Presenters will discuss the development, use and future plans for each system.
