PLA What the Library Did for Romance Few communities of fiction readers are as active online as romance readers, and librarians can learn from the romance community to entice customers of all types. Sarah will explain how she has created a large, active online community and Jennifer will discuss involving an existing community of readers to engage library customers. By using creative and inexpensive ideas, such as a unique online contest that challenged people’s creativity and library humor, the potential for bringing readers together is endless, both in the virtual and physical space. Tools and Pitfalls in Creating Successful Resource Sharing and Collections Agreements Most libraries are involved in cooperative projects on a daily basis. These vary from resource sharing agreements to shared purchases and innovative collections projects. Some are informal or proof of concept pilots. Others have long term goals requiring formal documents, policies, oversight and staff. Panelists will offer best practices and case studies to explore successful strategies and highlight potential pitfalls. Questions such as cost sharing, necessity of legal agreements, staffing and keeping the cooperation alive will be discussed. www.alaannual.org ANNUAL CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION 2011 PRELIMINARY PROGRAM 116 http://www.alaannual.org
