EMIERT Gathering the Storm: Exploring Katrina’s Jewish Voices and the Significance of Oral History Collection In the wake of Katrina, the Jewish Women’s Archive and the Institute for Southern Jewish Life instituted an oral history project to document the experience of the hurricane and its aftermath for those in the Jewish community of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. From these interviews, Professor Karla Goldman will consider the Jewish themes that emerge in the narrators’ accounts of loss, relief efforts, and the conceptual frameworks through which individuals tried to understand their experiences of destruction and displacement. This presentation also offers the opportunity to reflect upon the contributions and limitations of oral history projects. This panel presentation will explore how the definition of Grey literature is changing today and how government libraries are dealing with the material in new and innovative ways.
