The first panel will lay out the fundamentals of the research and publishing side of tenure. Topics would include establishing a research agenda, identifying research questions, understanding research methods and finding the right collaborators. The second panel would discuss building up a dossier, documenting work, building a networking base through state, regional and national presentations, getting into scholarly publishing, and choosing the right journals. Wikimedia operates the largest collaboratively-edited reference projects in the world, including Wikipedia, one of the world’s 10-most-popular sites. Since her arrival at Wikimedia, Gardner has introduced major initiatives focused on organizational maturity, long-term sustainability, and increased participation, reach, and quality of the Foundation’s free-knowledge projects. Gardner will discuss the evolution of Wikipedia and what lies ahead. LITA Authority Control in the Next Generation Developments with RDA and Next Generation catalogs impacts the use of authorized terms, which in turn must influence the structure of authority terms and records.This program will explore what OpenSource systems are doing with authority control and what “loss of authority control’ is caused by various add-on programs (federated searches, etc.) Sponsored by LITA/ ALCTS Authority Control Interest Group.
