LITA - PRESIDENT’S PROGRAM Building the Future: Addressing Library Broadband Connectivity Issues in the 21st Century The nation’s first National Broadband Plan was released in 2010. It set a goal that community anchor institutions—including libraries, schools, higher education—have affordable access to at least 1Gbps connectivity. But 42% of public libraries have less than 2Mbps connections and many other libraries have broadband issues too. The president’s program will explore the broadband landscape and how ALA is working with Internet2 to address the broadband needs of libraries, schools and higher education. Hosted by LITA President Karen Starr. Speakers: Robert Bocher, Wisconsin State Library RMRT Retired Members Cafe Using the World Cafe approach, everyone who comes will participate in planning the activities of the new RMRT. We know ALA’s Retired Members want to continue to contribute -- as one said, “I retired from my job, but not from my profession.” We know there is information members need before retirement, and afterward. We know we want to enjoy ourselves too. What activities will the Round Table pursue to make these things happen? RUSA – RSS, LLAMA - MAES PLA The Making of a Latino Library Lover: Programming for Latinos Can you say “¿ yo amo mi biblioteca?” or, more importantly, can your community’s Latinos say it? This program will focus on effective assessment methods and tools for user services, including both patrons’ and internal evaluations. Tools and methods range from external reviewers (secret shoppers) to surveys and beyond. Presentations will explore how library managers determine what data are important to collect, and how results are interpreted and used for meaningful decision-making. Track: User Services YALSA Teen Services Mashup Join us at this informal table talk session to find fresh ideas for serving your teens. Participants can mingle with presenters and learn about what types of programs and services other libraries have successfully delivered for and with teens. Cherry pick the ideas that work best for your library and come home with something new!
