Newspapers, magazines, radio and television broadcasts can provide opportunities for the academic librarian to draw the attention of the public to innovation in the field and to the pivotal role played by the library in the post-secondary education of the next generation. In this preconference, library leaders will hone their strategic approach to media relationship building, sketch or polish a Media Plan, and build their interview skills. Speakers: Gail Hulnick, Communications Consultant ACRL –PRECONFERENCE Action Research: How to easily incorporate evidence-based librarianship into your professional practice Friday, June 24, 2011, 1:00 – 4:00 PM Event Code: ACR3 Ticket Prices: ALA Member Division (ACRL) Member Round Table Member Retired Member Student Member Non-Member Advance $245 $195 $245 $195 $95 $285 Onsite $245 $195 $245 $195 $95 $285 In a world that is increasingly data-driven and one in which data is easily attainable, librarians have new opportunities to both contribute to research and use evidence to improve professional practice. Understanding basic data analysis also opens up opportunities for evidencebased practice not only in libraries but also in the university at-large. This preconference will introduce librarians to action research, show free tools for collecting and analyzing data, generate ideas for individual research, and empower users to engage in action research and develop evidenced-based practices at their own institutions. Participants should bring laptops and will be contacted by the presenters with additional information. Speakers: Stephanie Rosenblatt, Education Librarian, California State University, Fullerton; Virginia Allison, Research Librarian for Visual Arts, University of California, Irvine; April Cunningham, Instruction Coordinator, Saddleback College www.alaannual.org ANNUAL CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION 2011 PRELIMINARY PROGRAM 38 http://www.alaannual.org
