FAFLRT Armed Forces Librarianship Today Military libraries are found on every continent, supporting military and civilian personnel, families, and veterans. They are diverse, including, research, academic and general libraries. While much of our work is similar to civilian libraries, there are differences and challenges to overcome. If you have ever wondered what goes on behind the gates or considered becoming a military librarian, come hear this panel representing all the services. Track: Authors, Literature & Cultural Programming Subtrack: Cultural Diversity Moderators: Homa Naficy, Hartford (CT) Public Library, Manager, Outreach and Multicultural Education; Chair, EMIERT New Technologies: The Impact on Government Transparency Interested in government transparency, its affect on libraries, and how changes in technology affect how we share information? Rick Falkvinge, founder of Sweden’s Pirate Party, will speak about how the evolution of information-sharing tools have impacted government transparency. Moderators: Loida Garcia-Febo, Queens Library Speakers: Rick Falkvinge, Sweden’s Pirate Party IRRT Literacy Programs in Libraries around the Globe-International Paper Session What innovative programs and practices are libraries employing to develop literate communities? How are libraries partnering or collaborating with other organizations around literacy programs? The challenge includes both adult and childhood literacy and involves reaching out to those who cannot read or who have limited reading skills.
