The Coretta Scott King Book Awards Breakfast

Celebrate Kadir Nelson, Shane W. Evans, and Ashley Bryan at the 2012 Coretta Scott King Book Awards Breakfast honoring the year’s best African American authors and illustrators of books for youth. Individual tickets may be purchased for $50 each prior to the Early-Bird Registration deadline of May 13, 2012, and for $60 between May 14 and June 14, 2012. Tables may be reserved by purchasing 10, 20, 30, or 40 individual tickets for $50 each prior to May 13, 2012. All ticket sales will end on June 14—tickets will NOT be available from the registration desk.

Share the Wealth: Contribute to the AASL Standards for the 21st-Century Learner Lesson Plan Database (AASL)

The “Standards for the 21st-Century Learner Lesson Plan Database” is an online resource providing school librarians a user-friendly way to create and share lesson plans with their peers. How can you increase your chances of getting your lesson published? In this hands-on, bring-your-own laptop session, participants will be guided through the process of submitting a lesson. Those interested in volunteering to moderate submitted lessons will also benefit from this in-depth exploration the lesson plan template.

Newsy provides video clips of eight areas of current events in an engaging and diverse manner. This Week in Newsy provides expanded lesson plans for teachers using Newsy video clips.
