A series of short discussions , workshops and Q&A sessions will take place, designed to improve advocacy skills and to showcase current advocacy initiatives from all facets of the profession. Location: Member Pavilion, Exhibits Floor Subjects: Advocacy sunDAy June 24, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm AASL When miss rumphius meets hugo cabret: scaffolding using Picture books (AAsL) Picture books can be used as a scaffold to help students understand new or difficult concepts. A quality picture book engages the reader and listener, helps students to acquire critical thinking and questioning skills and promotes lively discussion in a classroom. This session will demonstrate how picture books can be used to develop Blooming Questions, serve as a bridge to activate a student’s prior knowledge and set the stage to integrate new content knowledge. PLA PLA President’s Program and Awards Presentation Following the recognition of PLA’s 2012 award winners, the Public Library Association (PLA) and PLA President, Marcia Warner, will welcome keynote speakers for the PLA President’s Program and Awards Presentation. AASL revitalizing the research Process: bringing research into the 21st century (AAsL) Learn how to embrace blogs, wikis, and other types of formerly taboo Web 2.0 resources as tools students can utilize to complete the research process.
