This award identifies and honors the very best writing and illustrations by and about American Indians. The program will include speakers, awards presentations, and a cultural performance. Subjects: Children’s Literature, Diversity sunDAy June 24, 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm AASL youth, online Privacy, and the new Literacies (AAsL) Young people today are sophisticated users of the Internet, approaching this medium with ease and enthusiasm but often without understanding the impact the Internet and social media have on their privacy. This session will explore how the definition of literacy has expanded beyond reading and writing to encompass information, media, and digital literacies. Learn how school librarians’ traditional commitments to literacy and privacy must extend into these new domains to educate students about privacy online. SRRT feminist night at the movies (srrt) Come and have an entertaining and educational night at the movies with the Feminist Task Force and Women Make Movies. This year we will be showing movies from the Women Make Movies catalog, www.wmm.com. AASL A college readiness Dialogue at the Grassroots Level (AAsL) Ninety-six librarians gather to discuss College Readiness: How prepared are our high school seniors for college research? What strengths do they take with them during this transition? What can we do to help them achieve success? Public, private, and alternative schools from Kansas and Missouri were in attendance along with 12 academic librarians from area colleges and universities. And, it was free to attend!
