This program will examine the essential services that libraries provide to their communities and, increasingly, an interconnected global community. Subjects: Trends and Forecasting ALTAFF ALtAff President’s Program with Dan rather ALTAFF president Donna McDonald welcomes Dan Rather, an award winning journalist who anchored CBS Evening News for decades. One of America’s most decorated news journalists of all time, Rather is the author of “Rather Outspoken,” a complete and thorough memoir as he looks back over his storied and sometimes controversial career and reveals his personal thoughts and reflections. A book signing will follow. monDAy June 25, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm ACRL / ALCTS President’s Program: future of the book: innovation in traditional industries Joint President’s Program – ALcts and AcrL Duane Bray, a partner at IDEO, a global innovation and design consulting firm, will discuss the challenges traditional industries often face when experiencing disruptive change. He will share concrete techniques for recognizing and harnessing opportunities for innovation. Subjects: Ebooks, Digital Libraries, Emerging Technologies, Technology, Transforming Libraries ALA-COA standards review update The Committee on Accreditation will share results of the LIS program Standards review, now in its third year. Release of a draft revision of the Standards is planned at the conclusion of the five-year review process.
