ACRL President's Program to Focus on Financial Literacy

Join ACRL President Trevor A. Dawes for the ACRL President's Program “Financial Literacy at Your Library.” The program will bring together leaders in financial advising and higher education to discuss ways in which college students especially can learn how to more effectively manage their finances. Featuring speakers Ferris State University President David Eisler and Washington Post columnist and financial educator Michelle Singletary, the program will highlight ways in which librarians and libraries can partner with others on and off campus to aid students in these endeavors. Learn more about this important issue from 10:30 a.m. — 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 in room N255/257 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

AASL Honors Award Winners

The 2014 AASL award winners will be honored during the AASL Awards Ceremony held from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28. Debuting in a new format this year, all are welcome to celebrate the accomplishments of their peers during this recognition event-taking place prior to the AASL President's Program. The AASL Awards Ceremony will no longer require a ticket to attend nor will a luncheon be served. Also included in the program will be the announcement of the 2014 Best Apps for Teaching & Learning and the 2014 Best Websites for Teaching & Learning. Dedicated sessions on the recognized apps and websites will take place independently.

The American Association of School Librarians, www.aasl.org, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), promotes the improvement and extension of library services in elementary and secondary schools as a means of strengthening the total education program. Its mission is to advocate excellence, facilitate change and develop leaders in the school library field.


Extra! Extra! Read All About …Poster Sessions

The 2014 ALA Annual Poster Sessions will be held at the ALA Annual Conference at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and this year will be held in the Exhibits at the beginning of Aisle 2200.

Poster Sessions were introduced to ALA at its 1982 Annual Conference in Philadelphia. They are an effective forum for the exchange of information and a means to communicate ideas, research, and programs.

Poster sessions may present any of the following: a description of an innovative library program, an analysis of a practical problem-solving effort, or a report of a research study. The ALAposter sessions will occur on:

Saturday, June 28 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., 12:30 -2:00 p.m., and 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.

Sunday, June 29 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., 12:30 -2:00 p.m., and 2:30 - 4:00 p.m

There will be no poster sessions on Friday, Monday or Tuesday.

Be sure to attend this unique way of networking and finding out what is happening in other libraries across the nation.


NOW SHOWING@ALA

Back by popular demand the “Now Showing @ ALA Film Program” will offer a variety of films and documentaries throughout the day from Saturday through Monday. From “The Speaker,” to “The Whole Gritty City,” to “The Conservative,” the diversity of offerings offer great appeal.
