JUNE 2015 PREVIEW COGNOTES 21

Chapters’ Career Development Facilitator Training to be Presented

Attendees of the ALA 2015 Annual Conference in San Francisco are invited to attend a special presentation highlighting the ALA Chapters’ Career Development Facilitator Training on Sunday June 28, 1:00 — 2:00 p.m. The program will be held in the Moscone Convention Center — 2001W.

One of ALA President Courtney Young’s presidential initiatives included partnering with ALA Chapters to provide career development facilitation (CDF) training. Twenty ALA chapters selected representatives from their states to participate in this ground-breaking training. The chapter representatives met for two-days of training prior to the ALA 2015 Midwinter Meeting in Chicago. The training proceeded with 14 weeks of virtual sessions and assignments.

Participants will be recognized during the program by receiving certificates of completion. Several chapter representatives will also showcase their work and give conference attendees an opportunity to see innovative ways to provide services and resources to assist job seekers who come to the library.

Created by the National Career Development Association (NCDA), the CDF program is a comprehensive training designed to address several facets of career planning and the job search. The ALA Chapter CDF training was designed with special emphasis on the role of the librarian in helping those within their local communities who may be seeking assistance with job searches. By offering this innovative training to those in state chapters, participants are now able to assist peers within their state associations, as well as those within their communities

The CDF training was conducted by Dr. Caitlin Williams, a highly skilled career development coach/trainer/educator with over twenty years’ experience facilitating individual and organizational growth and success through designing and delivering leadership, career development and executive education programs and through assisting organizations in their talent management efforts. Williams has been a long-time consultant for ALA members on career-related issues through the ALA Job LIST Placement Center.

The ALA Office for Human Resource Development and Recruitment (HRDR) served as staff liaison for the CDF program.
