Eight Recipients Will be Honored at the 2017 AIA/ALA Library Building Awards

he Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) and
the American Institute of Architects
(AIA) will present the 2017 AIA/ALA Library Building Awards at an open reception
hosted by the Chicago AIA Office. Please
join us as we honor these eight magnificent
projects on Monday, June 26 from 1:30 -
4:00 p.m., at AIA Chicago, 35 East Wacker
Dr., Ste. 250. Representatives from the
architects and library staffs will be present
to accept their awards. Winning library
projects are:
Boston Public Library, Central Library

Whitehall; Columbus, Ohio (JBAD)

Data Rescue
Focus of SPARCACRL Forum

n the current political climate, the endangerment of federally funded research
results, including data, has become a reality. In response to the potential loss of public
research data, many specialists, including
librarians and archivists, have joined forces to
rescue imperiled data. Grassroots efforts like
"DataRefuge" events and "Endangered Data
Week" are raising awareness and enabling
data to be saved that otherwise would be
left to disappear.
The SPARC-ACRL Forum in Chicago
will feature speakers presently or recently
involved in #datarescue efforts, such as those
lead by the University of Pennsylvania and
nurtured by the Digital Library Federation.
Presentations are expected to report on the
movement; identify challenges and lessons
learned; offer guidance and tips for potential
local #datarescue efforts; and recommend
what further roles organizations like ACRL
and SPARC can play in this space. The
forum will be held from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.
on Saturday, June 24 in room S102 of McCormick Place.

Focus on Social
Justice and the
Framework for
Information Literacy

he ACRL Instruction Section is offering the full-day
preconference, "Going with
(and Growing with) the Framework:
Teaching Information with a Social
Justice Lens," on June 23. Through
panel presentations and hands-on
workshops, develop strategies and approaches for teaching the Framework
for Information Literacy in Higher
Education that also incorporate a
social justice lens. More information
