Money Smart Week®: Providing Financial Literacy Programs for Your Patrons

On Saturday, January 21, come learn how your library can participate in Money Smart Week®, April 22-29, 2017! This presentation will be held 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Georgia World Congress Center, A302.

For seven years, the American Library Association has partnered with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago to sponsor Money Smart Week®. This national initiative between the two organizations provides financial literacy programming to help members of your community better manage their personal finances.

Libraries of all types can and do participate in Money Smart Week®, providing financial programming for all ages and all stages of life. Financial topics range from basic banking services, credit and debt management, estate planning, going green to save, healthy habits that save, mortgages, identity theft, investment scams, financial fraud, and insurance to investing and wealth building, kids and money, personal finance 101, preparing for financial emergencies, retirement planning, savvy shopping and bargain hunting, small business and entrepreneurship, taxes, teens and money, and unemployment and job transitioning, and more.

In 2016, over 1000 public, academic, school, prison, and other libraries in 48 states participated.

Meet the AASL Candidates and Get Out the Vote!

The American Association of School Librarians Candidates Forum is your chance to meet the 2017 slate of candidates for AASL Board of Directors and Section positions. Join your fellow AASL members at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 22 in GWCC room 203 to discover what the candidates see for the future of AASL and the school library profession.

The School Library Profession: The Conversation Starts Here

Sections of the American Association of School Librarians will discuss topics of interest to school library professionals during the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Atlanta.

The Supervisors Section will look inward and examine how the section can make a difference in its support of school library supervisors across the nation. The Harwoodstyle discussion will take place at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21 in the Omni in room Dogwood B.

The Educators of School Librarians Section will share the latest research and updates from the school library community in a “News You Can Use” session, time and date to be announced.
