Revising ACRL's Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education

A task force, appointed by the ACRL Board of Directors, is substantially revising the seminal Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. First adopted in 2000, these standards have defined information literacy for librarians, educators, and assessment agencies. An open forum on the revision process will be held on Saturday January 25, at 10:30 a.m. in the Lowes Hotel Commonwealth A-D room. Join task force's co-chairs Trudi Jacobson and Craig Gibson as they present progress on the forthcoming significant revisions of the standards. The revised draft, to be released in February, will underscore the critical need for faculty members and librarians to collaborate and incorporate two new foundational elements: threshold concepts and metaliteracy Additional information is available on the ACRL website at http://acrl.ala.org/ilstan-dards/.

Connecting Articles and Data to Expand Open Access to Research

While libraries have been managing open access repositories of articles for over a decade, models for openly accessible data repositories are still emerging. At the 2014 ALA Midwinter SPARC/ ACRL Forum, “Connecting Articles and Data to Expand Open Access to Research,” A panel of experts will examine emerging practices for libraries, new collaborations, considerations of how to fund the storage of data, and options for making the connections between articles and data to fully realize the potential of open access to research. The forum will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, in the Pennsylvania Convention Center room 201 B.
