Super Precision & Productivity Magazine - Volume 2, Issue 2 - (Page 7) Worth Noting Hardinge Technology Center Elmira, NY, Feb. 26, 2007 Turning Point Premiere ELMIRA, NY - February 26, 2007, marked the “Turning Point” for Hardinge’s line of lathes and turning centers. With nearly 200 people in attendance, two new product ranges were unveiled for the very first time. These all-new ranges of American built turning centers, the RS-Series and SR-Series, will become the flagship for the Hardinge brand and have been engineered and designed to compete directly with Mori-Seiki’s and Okuma’s high-end multitasking machines. During the event, attendees toured Hardinge’s 550,000 square foot facility in New York, to see key core components of the RS-Series and SR-Series being machined and assembled, including the famous Hardinge spindle. Prior to the tour, attendees were given technical presentations about the machines and their performance capabilities. And finally, with all the pomp and circumstance demanded of a proper product unveiling, J. Patrick Ervin, Chairman/President/CEO of Hardinge Inc. led everyone in a champaign toast as the curtain was dropped amidst flashing lights and smoke, in front of the Hardinge RS 51 MSY and Hardinge SR 200 MS turning centers. J. Patrick Ervin, Chairman/President/CEO, states “This event truly marked the turning point of Hardinge as a Company, not only our turning products but our milling, grinding and workholding products as well. Everyone at Hardinge is focused on producing products that are second to none in the industry and these new turning centers are a prime example of the achievements we’ve been making”. There are actually two distinct product ranges within the RS-Series. At the top are three Super-Precision “collet-spindle” models that are unprecedented in the world for high-precision capabilities, including the Super-Precision® RS 42, Super-Precision® RS 51, and SuperPrecision® RS 65. Next are three general precision “collet-spindle” models, the RS 42, RS 51 and RS 65. The RS machines give you the confidence to run lights, “done in one” parts with the toughest CPK’s out of the toughest material. With up to 25% more torque and horsepower and 24% more speed than previous Hardinge turning centers, the all new SR–Series turning centers are true “chuck and bar” machines that will cut the toughest materials and handle deep interrupted cuts with ease while maintaining overall part accuracy. The SR 150, 200 and soon to be released 250 all feature superior vibration damping accomplished through the use of heavy-duty linear roller guides mounted to a HARCRETE-reinforced cast iron base. This platform allows the user to tackle the toughest work virtually vibration free while reducing expenditure on today’s high-performance tooling by as much as 33%. “Our goal is to educate the industry of what Hardinge has become, which is why our Turning Point event was so important to Hardinge. These new turning centers lead the industry in features and capabilities…and that says a great deal. Turning Point was a great success and not only showed off our new turning centers but helped spread the word of what Hardinge has become”, concludes Ervin. S.P & P Magazine . . 7
