Super Precision & Productivity Magazine - Volume 2, Issue 2 - (Page 9) placed during and shortly after the event,” Alison Zhang, General Riba was close to winning when another driver crashed into him, Manager of China Operations, said. “The machine tool industry is ruining his possibility for winning. developing rapidly in China, which has become one of the most dominant overseas markets for Hardinge and its extensive line Hardinge rider Tom Tunstall shows great of products.” Kawasaki Hardinge Gill Motor Sport Team – Seeking First World Championship BIEL – BIENNE, SWITZERLAND - Hardinge sponsored, Gil Motor Sport, started their first season in the World Supersport Series in 2005 with the former Supersort World Champion, Stéphane Chambon. Stéphane’s solid performance and eventual 7th place finish for the season established the Gil Motor Sport Team as the best private team in the Supersport World Championship. In 2006, Gil Motor Sport became the official team partner of Kawasaki and raced the season with Stéphane Chambon and the young Maxime Berger. This season also marked the start of cooperation between Hardinge Inc. and Gil Motor Sport, which received a warm welcome on the worldwide racing scene. Both riders performed well during the whole season, but the team could not hide their disappointment with their final 11th and 17th rankings. In this, their third year of competition, the Kawasaki Hardinge Gil Motor Sport Team is a real favorite for winning the Supersport World Championship. With new riders Fabien Foret, Supersport World Champion in 2002 and Pere Riba, an experienced rider in a different series, the team has on their hands two excellent riders who’ve showcased their skills before. Results are already promising, with Fabien winning the second race of the season and finding himself 2nd in the Championship. Riba has also shown his skill, finding himself on his way to the podium but forced to cut it off due to technical problems. In his last race, promise in the British Superbike Cup Championship! LEICESTER, UK - Superbike Rookie Tom Tunstall may be new to the track but his results are already impressive. In race, one Tunstall’s determination was evident as he launched his CBR1000RR off the line and began making up ground. In only three laps Tunstall had improved his best lap-time of the weekend by nearly a second and rode this momentum to a third place finish in the Superbike Cup. With increased confidence Tunstall took the grid for race two. Early on the race was tight, with Tunstall scrapping it up with former cup champions Chris Martin and James Buckingham, however, by lap 10, the Hardinge rider was leading the Cup riders. A crash later in the race found Tunstall still in the lead, but on the restart Tunstall was overtaken. Using the grit and determination shown all weekend, Tunstall worked his way back into contention, closing a two second gap with the leader. As luck would have it, Tunstall could not close the gap, crossing the finish line with an average race speed of 104.9mph and a second place finish vaulting him to the lead of the Cup Championship series by a single point. Of his performance, Tunstall said, “The race was a lot of fun and I was starting to get to grips with how much these bikes spin and slide. We’re making great progress and after all the problems we’ve had this weekend, the champagne tasted that bit sweeter.” Hardinge Sales Director, Dave Andrew, who was trackside for the weekend said, “What a roller coaster of emotions that was! On Saturday, we would happily have settled to simply qualify. By Sunday night we had won two more trophies and are now leading the Championship!” S.P & P Magazine . . 9
