A Program of Self-Discovery and Empowerment for Girls
By Stephanie S. Covington, PhD
Today we are hearing more about girls and bullying, the pressures of social media, early puberty, gender exploration,
human sex trafficking, and binge drinking. Texting, social media, and online or "in real life" friends are part of the
changes in girls' social lives. These, as well as trauma and abuse, are some of the topics included in Voices, an evidencebased program designed to help girls understand their self, learn how to connect with others, live a healthy life, and look
forward to their journey ahead.
This 18-session program advocates a strength-based approach with therapeutic strategies, including psychoeducational, cognitive-behavioral, and expressive arts to encourage girls to celebrate their true selves.
Ideal for schools, community organizations, treatment, mental health, and juvenile justice, Voices guides you in
creating a safe space, encouragement, structure, and the support teen girls need on their journeys of discovery. An
integral part of the program, the participant's journal utilizes the process of interactive journaling, an NREPP-listed,
