Magon, creative director and principal, infused
it with a contemporary air that channels a stark
art gallery more than a bustling brasserie. As
an alternative, the Contour-designed Bar 12 is
below on the first floor, the base of which is a
multifaceted, jewel-like cut stone referencing
tile patterns that captivated Magon. Bottles
are perched on warm, backlit brass shelves,
reinforcing the metal's sophisticated presence
throughout the restaurant upstairs.
"A stunning brass gate," says Magon, is the
first hint that a culinary oasis lies beyond the
women's contemporary section. Customers
are greeted by a dramatic ceiling covered in
a canopy of custom blossom-shaped lighting
fixtures and graphic wallpaper mimicking the
floral theme. Like another swath of wallpaper
in the lounge that nods to a plastered rose wall
salvaged from the restaurant's old incarnation,
the result, Magon points out, is a welcome

juxtaposition that "adds softness to the modern,
straight lines."
Deep blue seating in such forms as plush
square booths and serpentine banquettes
punctuate a cool palette of white, gray, black, and
gold. These join featured pieces like upholstered
barstools and shark-nose edged tables, while
a few additions are part of Magon's own soonto-launch hospitality and residential furniture
collection.
Sleek stone surfaces abound, but it's the
recurring sculptural hexagon motif in the dining
room that is most pronounced. "When I was
researching designs and shapes for inspiration,
the hexagon intrigued me the most," Magon
explains. Instead of lighting that would detract
from the entry's hanging installation, for
example, it's a grid of the six-sided polygon that
wraps up a wall and cantilevers over the ceiling,
animating the space.
