Happy 2019! I hope everyone was able

to enjoy the holidays because after pulling
together our development outlook with Lodging
Econometrics' Bruce Ford on page 37, it looks
like it will be another busy few months for our
industry. (Well, knock on wood.)
We are excited for the year ahead and have
a lot planned at HD. First on the docket, our
annual HD Awards. Along with a few new
categories in our project and product awards
(like art and branding), we're teaming up
with West Elm on a student product design
competition where the winning product will
be manufactured and put in the company's

It is with great pleasure that I announce our esteemed juries. For projects,
Ave Bradley, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants; Alexandra Champalimaud,
Champalimaud; Jim Merkel, Rockbridge; Glenn Pushelberg and George Yabu,
Yabu Pushelberg; and Brad Wilson, Ace Hotel Group. For products, we have Gray
Shealy, Royal Caribbean; Miriam Torres, Parker-Torres Design; and Therese
Virserius, Virserius Studio. Finalists will be revealed in April and winners will be
announced at our annual celebration on June 5th at Cipriani 25 Broadway in
New York.
If you can believe it, we are also gearing up for HD Expo. Of the many exciting
things taking place May 15-17th at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, including another
powerhouse lineup of conference sessions, some 850 exhibitors (500 of which are
unique to our show), and multiple networking events, we are introducing a wellness
pavilion on the show floor. Wellness tourism increased from a $563 billion market
in 2015 to $639 billion in 2017-a growth rate more than two times faster than
tourism overall. Now, it's forecasted to approach $1 trillion through 2022. With
that in mind, this area will feature talks with veterans and startups alike that will
dive into what that means for our industry. Head to hdexpo.com to see the full
