South America Clinica Las Condes is undertaking a project to double capacity on a dense urban site and integrate a new facility into the existing hospital in
Santiago, Chile. The first phase opened in September 2014 with 220 beds and
the expansion into the new hospital is taking place over the next 10 years. The design incorporates advanced technologies and includes hospitality-style finishes,
artwork, plazas, gardens, and water features. Select energy-efficient systems,
glazing, insulation, and ventilation are used to maximize the building's performance. The new facility is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine International and
accredited by the Joint Commission. The project team includes architecture firms
CallisonRTKL (Washington, D.C.) and Mobil Arquitectos (Santiago, Chile).

Scandinavia Denmark's Bispebjerg Hospital is working with
the consortium of KHR Arkitekter (Copenhagen, Denmark),
WHR Architects (Copenhagen, Denmark), and Arup International Ltd. (Copenhagen, Denmark) on a new 715,855-squarefoot somatic hospital, part of a larger campus expansion. The
facility will be built on the existing Bispebjerg Hospital campus in
Copenhagen and bring together Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg
Hospitals. Six bed towers will be connected on a diagnostic
and treatment base that reflects the existing historical campus
buildings. An emergency department, imaging and surgery, and
approximately 600 patient rooms will also be built. A proposed
façade design features an ombré pattern that transitions from
yellow to red brick.

Asia Jiahui International Hospital (JIH) is a foreign-invested tertiary general hospital
under construction in Shanghai. The campus will feature an inpatient bed tower,
outpatient clinics, interventional suites, an emergency department, and an oncology center. The first phase of the $500 million project is expected to be completed
in 2017 with a total of 246 beds. Phase 2 will bring the capacity to 500 beds. NBBJ
(New York, Shanghai) is providing master planning, architecture, and interior design
services on the project, which is envisioned as a "hospital in a garden," with a parklike central courtyard that will be visible from most areas on the lower levels. JIH has
established a multi-year collaboration with Partners HealthCare International and expects to work with two Harvard Medical School-affiliated teaching hospitals-Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital-on multiple oncology
and women's health programs.

Middle East King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center is being
built in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with a completion anticipated in 2017. Built on
a rectangular 1-by-2-kilometer plot designated for a medical city, the campus will
include a full range of infrastructure support, housing, and commercial functions
providing retail and hotels. The 1,200-bed hospital, which will be connected to a
new research and education facility, will house four centers of excellence to meet
the growing needs of the Saudi population. The center for oncology will comprise
radiation technologies and infusion therapy and is being conceived as a separate building housing linear accelerators on a lower floor and dedicated patient
rooms on upper levels. The cardiology and neurology centers are proposed for
two bed towers rising from a common podium, where diagnostic and treatment
specialties will be located. A pediatric center, designed with its own entry, will occupy a distinct tower connected to the podium, where pediatric clinics and support functions will be located. The design team is being led by CallisonRTKL. HCD
