I IMAGINE as the clock ticked toward midnight

on Jan. 31, some of you were busy putting the
finishing touches on your session proposals for
the 2018 Healthcare Design Expo & Conference,
scheduled for Nov. 10-13 in Phoenix.
Each year, hundreds of healthcare design
professionals heed the call and submit outstanding content for consideration, identifying pressing topics and new projects they feel
colleagues should know more about. I've been
involved in the planning of many great conferences over the years, but I've never seen as much effort brought forth by
an industry as what you all do for HCD.
But herein lies the dilemma: Unless we made the show seven days instead of three, there's no way we could accept all the submissions we receive-no matter how deserving.
The process we undertake to get from almost 500 submissions to
around 100 sessions isn't an easy one, nor is it taken lightly.
Our review team, led by Jennifer Wilcox from The Center for Health
Design, includes multidisciplinary thought leaders from key industry associations and organizations as well as our magazine editors. The group
spends weeks reviewing submissions individually and then collaborates
in person over a two-day period.
They put in countless hours working to ensure we deliver an exciting
and fresh conference experience. The team takes its responsibilities very
seriously, too-I've seen firsthand the struggle they go through to develop
just the right mix of content to cover all corners of the industry and levels
of experience.
As you read this, we've already met and selected the sessions for 2018,
and now the HCD conference team is busy putting details together and
will soon be contacting speakers.
Thinking about submitting a proposal for the 2019 event? Perhaps a
few insider tips will help:
* Focus on topics that are trending and crucial for current success.
* Spend time developing a quality submission and articulate why it's a
winner.
* Grammar and spelling matter.
* Your session title should quickly and clearly convey what your session is
about.

and I can't wait to see what you have in store for November. 
