Banner Health's inpatient behavioral tower
focuses on leveraging safety within specific
clinical design solutions. The 78,000 sq. ft.,
two-story psychiatric facility accommodates
96 single-bed rooms in four units and meets
its mission minimizing the institutional
character associated with these type facilities via technology and biophilic features
(custom handrail designs, indoor/outdoor
applications, lighting and privacy resolution). The design features social and activity
spaces, staff areas, indoor/outdoor recreation
therapy spaces, a service kitchen, central
dining room, and central pharmacy. Banner
Behavioral's location allows for the interior
to translate as a beacon and a point of pride
for the community, improving the residential
neighborhood context.

The Joseph Brant Hospital project comprises
the addition of a 7-story, 172-bed patient care
tower, and renovations to the existing hospital.
Nestled between Lake Ontario and the Niagara
Escarpment, the hospital design leverages its
unique location in Burlington's waterfront, enhancing quality of patient care. 75% of the patient
rooms have lake views; the remainder, views to the
Escarpment. The redevelopment creates a new
main entry facing Lake Ontario and is connected
to the existing parking structure by a transparent
pedestrian bridge. The project includes clinical
inpatient and outpatient programs strategically
planned for ease of patient/visitor access and
improved operational efficiencies.
