Project Analog - November 2008 - (Page 10) Disadvantages: • Resistive loading of the source • Input stage distortion INSTRUMENTATION AMPLIFIER Figure 2 shows an instrumentation amplifer circuit that conditions a remote voltage sensor. The input resistors provide isolation and detection of sensor open-circuit failure. It amplifiers the input difference voltage (VSEN+ - VSEN-) and rejects common mode noise. Advantages: • Excellent rejection of common mode noise; it is great for remote sensors • Resistive isolation from the source • Detection of sensor failure fiG 2 iNSTrumENTaTioN amPlifiEr microchiP RESOURCES Signal Chain Design Guide: http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/ AppNotes/21825c.pdf AN695, “Interfacing Pressure Sensors to Microchip’s Analog Peripherals”: http://ww1.microchip.com/ downloads/en/AppNotes/00695a.pdf AN682, “Using Single Supply Op Amps in Embedded Systems”: http://ww1.microchip.com/ downloads/en/AppNotes/00682c.pdf AN722, “Operational Amplifier Topologies and DC Specifications”: http://ww1.microchip.com/ downloads/en/AppNotes/00722a.pdf AN723, “Operational Amplifier AC Specifications and Applications”: http://ww1.microchip.com/ downloads/en/AppNotes/00723a.pdf Contents Viewpoint Selecting the Proper Amplifier Using a Digital Potentiometer to Optimize a Photo Detection Circuit Resistor Networks in Critical Applications Analog news fiG 1 DiffErENcE amPlifiEr Disadvantages: • Resistive loading of the source • Cost For more information, refer to the complete application note here.
