Heifer international proudly announces the following new global education opportunities: fall 2008—Heifer Global Village at Shepherd’s Spring in Sharpsburg, Md. Located near Washington, D.C., the global village site at Shepherd’s Spring will eventually feature four programs through seven country sites, including Kenya, Guatemala and Thailand. Spring 2009—Heifer International Learning Center at Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills, Calif. Heifer will build its newest Learning Center at Hidden Villa, an environmental education center in Los Altos Hills. Replacing the Global Village formerly located at the Ceres Center in Ceres, Calif., this new center will offer Cultural Connections and Global Gateway programs and feature a five-country Global Village. Heifer ranch Special Programs PROgRAMS FOR INDIVIDUALS Summer Action: July 27-August 1, 2008 Commit to the value of serving others through interactive learning, community building and work projects. (6th–12th grades; plus accompanying adult) learning Center Group Programs Tours Learn about Heifer’s work and how livestock can improve nutrition and income. (pre-K and older) Available Locations: Heifer Ranch, Overlook Farm, Howell Nature Center H.o.p.E. Participants explore Heifer International’s sustainable agricultural approaches while learning more about Heifer’s mission to end world hunger and poverty in a way that cares for the Earth. (6th grade and older) Available Location: Overlook Farm Bridges Participants engage in a variety of activities that help them gain a deeper sense of commitment to each other, their communities and the world. They will leave prepared to work together and take action for a world without hunger or poverty. (6th grade and older) Available Location: Overlook Farm raising Bees and Harvesting Honey: october 5-10, 2008 Learn more about bees as you participate in our honey harvesting activities. (18 years and older) Global Gateway For one night, experience the daily struggles that people in poverty face every day to simply feed their family a meager meal. (6th grade and older) Available Locations: Heifer Ranch, Hidden Villa (summer 2009), Overlook Farm, Howell Nature Center, Shepherd’s Spring (spring 2009) Cultural Connections Experience the culture of people helped by Heifer. While preparing and eating an authentic meal, enjoy traditional clothing, music, games and housing. (18 years and older) Heifer Challenge Build teamwork and problem-solving skills by using globally-themed challenges to learn about world hunger and environmental issues. (6th grade and older) Available Location: Heifer Ranch Maintenance Workshop: october 19-24, 2008 Help us take care of the Ranch by assisting us in a work project. (18 years and older) PUBLIC EVENTS Corporate Challenge Learn individual, group and community development skills through problemsolving initiatives and an uplifting element. (18 years and older) Available Location: Heifer Ranch Global Explorers Investigate how everyday choices affect people and places thousands of miles away. (5th-6th grades) Available Location: Heifer Ranch Global Challenge Participants build leadership skills and team cooperation through experiencing 24 hours in poverty and completing a low and high challenge course.
