Livestock Health Care: October 5-9, 2008, at Heifer Ranch Learn about caring for livestock, such as cattle and sheep, while you help Heifer Ranch staff complete their fall livestock health checks. Weigh livestock, trim hooves, mark sheep with paint and tattoos, check cows for pregnancy and evaluate general animal health. Perform daily livestock chores and other duties such as moving and setting up temporary fences. The tuition fee of $310 per person includes all programming, lodging and meals. Participants must be at least 16; those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. (5th–6th grades) Location: Heifer Ranch Heifer Ranch Special Programs PROGRAMS FOR INDIVIDUALS Pick your own pumpkin at Overlook’s Harvest Festival! Activities include hayrides, face painting, crafts and a hay maze. Purchase local-harvest foods or bring your own picnic. 301 – Global Gateway For one night, experience the daily struggles that people in poverty face to simply feed their families. At the Heifer Ranch, the Global Challenge program combines Global Gateway and the Heifer Challenge Course in one trip! (18 years and older) Heifer University Programs September 11-14, 2008 Basic Course John Wesley Ranch, Divide, Colo.* Heifer Challenge Course More than just team-building exercises, the Heifer Challenge Course is an opportunity to examine the impact of personal choices on the environment and hunger-related issues. Gain a real understanding of the world’s need for organizations like Heifer International. (9th grade and older) Location: Heifer Ranch Maintenance Week October 19-24, 2008 Help us take care of the Ranch by assisting in a work project. (18 years and older) PUBLIC EVENTS October 30-November 2, 2008 Heifer U 201 at Heifer Ranch** Topic: “For the Seventh Generation” The spring schedule is available at www.heifer.org/learning *Basic Course is an overview of Heifer’s work **This is a special program for individuals already familiar with Heifer’s work. Each Heifer U 201 will focus on a specific topic or activity. Service-Learning Programs Service-learning programs combine experiential learning like a Heifer Global Village program with service activities. The service projects allow participants to give back while also serving as great educational tools. Participants learn to milk goats, harvest vegetables or perform other farm tasks. (6th grade and older) Locations: Heifer Ranch, Overlook Farm Global Village Day September 20, 2008 Global Village Day includes hayrides, hands-on activities and a walk through the Global Village. 101 – Cultural Connections Celebrate the culture of those helped by Heifer.
