Horizons Small Wonder dear friends, The microenterprises that are so often a part of Heifer projects can build essential business skills, improve quality of life and create economic independence. W hile ev ery neW y e a r daW ns with new op- portunities for hope and peace, each also presents the challenge to learn from yesterday and achieve more tomorrow. heifer international embraces this challenge, and we are dedicated to improving our methods to reach more families in our mission to end hunger and poverty. if we are to create better futures for all families around the world, however, it will require the commitment of us all. as one of heifer’s project partners wisely said, “Togetherness is such a great strength.” wesley Too, the kenyan man who spoke that simple truth, works with a heifer international dairy program that includes a microenterprise component. as you will learn within these pages, the microenterprises that are so often a part of heifer projects can build essential business skills, improve quality of life and create economic independence. as Too says about his project, “There is nothing like this in the whole district. everyone believes this is something special.” it is something special, indeed! during my recent participation in the forbes executive women’s forum and the Clinton global initiative annual meeting, i joined an important discussion about poverty and other issues affecting our global landscape. Microenterprise was frequently mentioned Jo Luck speaks at the Forbes Executive Women’s Forum in New York, where she received the Trailblazer Award for opening doors to success for other women.
