Train travel between the two countries was suspended in 1965 because of a war between india and pakistan, of which bangladesh was then a part. bangladesh gained its independence from pakistan in 1971 after a civil war and repaired its relations with india, but the 335-mile train route was not reopened. finally, in 2001, an agreement was signed to reopen the route, but it took until 2008 before it became a reality. The apiary, a brick enclosure housing at least 25 beehives, is about 3,000 years old, dating it to the time of King Solomon. The large-scale operation may have contained as many as 200 hives, housing more than a million bees. The clay skeps still contain traces of beeswax and pollen. It is the oldest discovered evidence of human beekeeping. n januar y/f e bruar y 2009 | wo r ld a r k 7 http://www.leprosy.org http://www.leprosy.ca http://www.heifer.org
